Ph.D. Candidate Rachel Winter is the recipient of multiple research grants to support her dissertation “A Spectacle of Inclusion: The Rise of Contemporary Art from the Arab World, Iran, and Turkey in the United States and England, 1970-2020.” She received the Decorative Arts Trust Research Grant; the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Grant from the UCSB Graduate Division; the UCSB Center for Middle Eastern Studies Summer Fellowship; the 2021 Claudia Weitlanner Fellowship in the Arts; and the Albert and Elaine Borchard Foundation European Studies Fellowship. Rachel’s dissertation explores the way museums in the US and England came to collect contemporary art from the Middle East in the 1970s in relationship to craft and festivals.
