Matthew Limb, a 7th-year Ph.D. Candidate, was awarded the Douglass Foundation Pre-Doctoral Fellowship through the Smithsonian Institute. During this year-length fellowship, Limb will be in residence in Washington, DC at the Smithsonian American Art Museum to continue to work on his dissertation, “‘Living on the Edge’: Craft, Land Use, and the American Environment.” His work examines the emergence of an environmental consciousness among makers in the American West and the complex network that developed between white and Native American craftspeople.
