Ph.D. Candidate Rachel Winter will be presenting her paper “Aestheticizing the Ecologies of the Syrian Refugee Crisis” at the upcoming 9th Biennial Hamad bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art. This year’s conference is themed “The Environment and Ecology in Islamic Art.” The Hamad bin Khalifa Symposium is the preeminent forum for historians of Islamic art and architecture. While the event was scheduled to occur at Virginia Commonwealth University in Doha, Qatar this year, the conference will now be hosted on Zoom from November 8-15.
