Is He Popular Yet? The Many Lives of Confucius in Pictures
Julia K. Murray (University of Wisconsin–Madison | Emeritus Professor of Chinese Art)

Until recently, Chinese scholars have paid little attention to pictorial versions of the life of Confucius, despite their number and variety, but examples in mainland collections are now being published. This talk will share some thoughts about the contents, technical characteristics, and likely purposes of several notably different portrayals.
